Updated November 20, 2025. The TCA has been able to connect with the communications team for the North Calgary Water Servicing Project and they have put together some Tuscany specific information for our community to answer general resident questions about the portions of this project that will be around Tuscany. We will update the TCA website and Facebook page when additional updates or construction notices are received. This will be a multi year project so timelines are subject to change due to various construction factors and, of course, the weather. The first set of information is related to Tuscany specifically and the general project information announced in October follows. Please use the city website as your main source of current and detailed information about this project at Calgary.ca/NorthCalgaryWaterServicing.
This updated project map includes general timeframes for the various sections of work.
Overview of Upcoming Work in Tuscany – North Calgary Water Servicing Project
The North Calgary Water Servicing Project includes four contracts that will impact the Tuscany area over the coming years. While details are still being finalized, here is what we can share at this time:
Trenchless Tunnel Contracts (2 and 3)
- Contract 2: A trenchless tunnel segment beneath Crowchild Trail NW.
- Contract 3: A tunnel extending between Twelve Mile Coulee Road NW and Nose Hill Drive NW, east of Lynx Ridge Golf Club.
Timeline & Activity:
- Tunneling is anticipated to begin in early 2026.
- Construction will include excavation, crane operations, and increased truck traffic.
- A temporary access road will be built east of Lynx Ridge Golf Club as part of the Trenchless Contract 3 construction site. We do not expect closures for public roadways.
- Work near Lynx Ridge is expected to continue from late Q1 2026 into Q2 2027.
- Lane closures near Trenchless Contract 2 are not anticipated; However, there may be pathway detours near Lynx Ridge Golf Course.
Contract 5 (C5) – Feeder Main Construction
- Route: C5 will run along Twelve Mile Coulee Road NW from Bearspaw Meadows Way NW to Country Hills Boulevard NW, then east along Country Hills Boulevard to Rocky Ridge Road NW.
- Timeline: Scheduled to begin Q1 2027 and continue into Q4 2028.
- Construction Method South of Crowchild Trail: Open trench construction along the right-of-way east of the road (not on the road itself).
- Construction Method north of Crowchild Trail: Open trench construction in the roadway areas
- Pathway Impacts: Temporary closures of adjacent pathways are expected. We’ll be working with the City’s pathways team to identify possible detours.
- Tuscany Way NW: Expected to be crossed using trenchless methods.
- Tusslewood Drive NW: Method under review; if open trenching is required, work will likely occur over a weekend to minimize disruption.
- After crossing Crowchild Trail NW, the project will move north and no longer be adjacent to Tuscany.
Facility 10 (Big Hill West Tie-In)
- Establishes a connection from the North Calgary Water Servicing feeder main to the existing Big Hill West Pressure Zone to support growth and provide additional water redundancy.
- Status: Planning is still in early stages. This facility is intended to tie into the existing water main in Tuscany, but final location and timeline are not yet confirmed.
- Potential Timeline: Could be as late as 2031.
Initial Announcement for Construction Start of the Calgary Water Servicing Project
Today, on October 23, 2025, the City of Calgary announced that construction begins on the North Calgary Water Servicing project.
“The project involves the construction of a new 22-kilometre-long water feeder main and ten support facilities, which include pump stations, expansions to existing underground reservoirs, tie-ins to existing infrastructure and connections at the Bearspaw Water Treatment plant. Once in service, the feeder main and facilities will deliver 100 million litres (ML) per day of clean, safe and reliable drinking water to existing and future communities in northwest Calgary, with long-term capacity reaching 410 ML per day following the completion of a new water treatment plant.” – City of Calgary newsroom
The posted information on the city website regarding this project indicate the feeder main will run north from the Bearspaw Water Treatment Plant near Stoney Trail and Nose Hill Drive, crossing under Crowchild Trail up to 144 Ave N.W. and then connecting to the Northridge Feeder Main at 144 Ave and 14 Street N.W. There are 10 support facilities that will be constructed as part of the project that are shown on the map above. Of these, 4 are around Tuscany. The details below are copied from the City list.
Legend 1 – Bearspaw NCWS Pump Station – A new large-scale facility will be constructed at the existing Bearspaw Water Treatment Plant (WTP). This facility will use large electric pumps to move an additional 100 million litres of water per day into Northwest Calgary.
Legend 2 – Bearspaw Yard Piping and Feeder Main – A new section of large-diameter underground piping will be constructed within the Bearspaw Water Treatment Plant compound. This piping will connect the new NCWS Pump Station to the new NCWS feeder main.
Legend 7 – North/South Control Chamber – This chamber connects the new high-lift pump station, the North Calgary Water Servicing feeder main, the future South Calgary Water Servicing feeder main, and the new water treatment plant.
Legend 10 – Big Hill West Tie-In – This establishes a connection from the North Calgary Water Servicing feeder main to the existing Big Hill West Pressure Zone, to support growth and provide additional water redundancy in the area.
Construction Timing – Construction on the first open cut section of the feeder main to begin in fall 2025 followed by construction on the first microtunnelling section and the first facility also in fall of 2025. Construction of the feeder main is expected to be complete by the end of 2028, with facility construction and system commissioning finalized by the end of 2029, at which point the entire system will be in service.
The City Newsroom announced today that the feeder main construction is starting in two locations, the first along Country Hills Blvd and Rocky Ridge Road NW as well as Rocky Ridge Road NW to 144 Ave NW. Construction of the first two facilities will begin at the Bearspaw Water Treatment Plant and the Top Hill Reservoir.
This post will be updated as more information becomes available.
