Recent traffic incidents have brought back the long standing debate in Tuscany about whether our roadways are 1 or 2 lanes wide. Although many of you have had some great conversations on our local social media and other venues, it is time to get the official word.
Our Calgary Policy Community Resource officer visited the TCA to bring attention to this topic following recent traffic incidents.
The final word – Unless there are clear road markings that the road is 2 lanes, all unmarked roads are 1 lane only. Yes, the single lane roads are wide in sections but they remain 1 lane roads with room to park on the side.
For example, Tuscany Way NW heading north from Eric Harvie School is a 1 lane road the entire way until there are clear road markings just before 12 Mile Coulee Rd designating a change to a 2 lane road. There have been multiple traffic issues in this area. Passing on the inside on a 1 lane road is a traffic violation and taken very seriously by CPS.
As an important side-note, passing in a school zone (a designated playground zone) is illegal in Calgary.
Thank you to CPS for clearing up this question and for making the time to raise this important issue for our community.
