As many families of Bowness High School students are very aware, there are two issues currently impacting transportation for Tuscany students to Bowness High School. Over 560 students from Tuscany attend Bowness High School this year.
1. The traffic issues at Nose Hill Drive/87 St NW and 87 St NW and Bearspaw Dam Rd
The TCA requested a safety review of the area in June of 2024 in conjunction with the Silver Springs Community Association, the Scenic Acres Community Association and Bowness Community Association. We have been notified by Councilor Sharp that the traffic studies are underway by the City of Calgary Mobility Department and we look forward to sharing updates once they are available. A need for a left turn signal from Nose Hill Dr NW heading west to 87th St NW has been identified to date to improve the turning safety for those accessing 87th St NW from Scenic Acres/Silver Springs. We look forward to future updates that will address the congestion backup.
2. The reduction of student express buses from Tuscany to Bowness High School
Last school year there were 5 school express buses serving Tuscany to Bowness High School, but a week before the start of the school year students and parents found out this was reduced to 3 buses with Route 723 being cancelled and a second bus running 724 cancelled. This change has impacted many families in a negative way as many students have been left without reliable transportation to school. The remaining buses are running very full and there is concern the transportation issues may impact school attendance. Many families have also opted to drive which has only increased the existing traffic issues.
The TCA has contacted Transit, CBE Transportation as well as the School Trustee and our Councilor’s office regarding this issue. Additional letters and escalations have been submitted.
Your Feedback
Should you have feedback regarding these issues we encourage you to submit your feedback to 311 as that is how the City tracks resident responses. Please also share your feedback with the TCA via planning@tuscanyca.org.
The TCA will continue to advocate and update regarding these two issues as our student populations are expected to continue to grow next school year.
